Arise, and Have No Fear – Parts

Composed for Transfiguration Sunday, Hale’s fanfare is scored for five trumpets, three trombones, tuba and organ, but it can be played by brass alone. It describes in musical language the strength and comfort that Jesus gave the disciples. As described in the Gospels, Jesus told the disciples to “arise, and have no fear.” A rhythmic theme opens the work, and not unlike British models, a contrasting hymn-like theme forms the central section, with the brilliant opening rhythms returning to conclude.
